1. Why do so many young people choose communication and media studies as their major?
• I think choosing what major to undertake depends on one’s aspiration. So students who decide to study communication and media studies have their reasons for doing so. For example, they might be nursing ambitions to work in the mass media industry as journalists, presenters or media consultant. To me it’s all about aspirations or desire to be something in the future.
2. Why do young people find it hard to make career choices?
• Well, they might encounter difficulties because there is a huge array of professions to choose from. Another reason could be the influence of parents. For example, the student might have the desire to become an architect but the parents might object to this. Therefore, the student will obviously be confused. This partly explains why some reputable institutions provide students with counselling sessions on career choices.
